TREE PLANTING PROTOCOLS

The pit should be ideally 3feet deep and 2feet wide. Depth should not be less than 2 feet.

Before planting the tree, the pit should be kept wide open for a minimum period of 7 days, ideally three weeks.

We educate and encourage to ensure that 2kg of bio compost fertilizer is mixed with sand while planting. And we plant only on locations where upkeep will be assured.

If we plant in public spaces it should be done along with a tree guard.

We mostly plant native tree species that endure natural disasters, as advised by experts and scientists.

SAPLINGS PROTOCOL - 1

We plant only 6-8 feet tall well-grown Trees.

We shall not plant saplings less than 4.5 feet size.

Only on locations where small dense forest making is possible, we will use small saplings and seed balls.

We plant mostly native species of trees which have the endurance to natural disasters, drought.

The chosen tree varieties will have higher Co2 absorption capacity.

Pollination and biodiversity aspects have been kept in mind while selecting.

We setup Re-Green saplings nurseries in various parts of Chennai to create easy access for citizens.

We setup an E-portal for people to procure saplings easily.

We procure large volume of well-grown trees from the Godavari basin of AP.

UPKEEP PROTOCOL

Focus mainly on schools, colleges, temples, churches, mosques, corporate compounds, apartment areas – where there will be localized ownership of the planted trees, and a publicly stated assurance to care those trees with regular watering and fertilizing.

Every planted tree will be recorded and enumerated. A dedicated team of paid employees will visit the planted trees periodically to review.

We shall be hiring 2 or 3 water tankers that will keep moving around the city to water the planted trees where there is no local stakeholdership.

Recognitions and awards will be established to honour those who manage upkeep very well.

VILLAGE TREE PLANTING & UPKEEP PROTOCOL

100 villages in the suburbs of Chennai will be targeted.

Every home in a village will be entrusted with a tree and a bond for Rs.200.

If after one year the tree is alive and growing the Rs.200 will be redeemed in favour of them.

Village community social structures will be integrated in to the initiative.

Women and children will play the pivot role.
